I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I just started watching Lars von Trier’s “Antichrist” and after the first (intense!) 10 minutes, I started realizing that I had a WHITE SPIRIT song on my mind. Whatever may be responsible for this most extraordinary association (you tell me!), here I am, taking a short break from watching the film, ripping and posting WHITE SPIRIT’s first 7″. It contains the great “Backs to the Grind” track (with some nice cheesy organ) and “Cheetah”, the song that made me sit down and write these lines. “Cheetah” must be played in the month-long burial ceremony of mine. Promise? Okay, and now back to the movie.

PS: Somebody care to transcribe the lyrics of “Cheetah”? What’s he singing in the chorus? I’m humming along since 30 years now and I’m sick of it. I finally wanna know what he sings!
PS 2: Yeah, the crackling. Go and buy an official reissue of this.

Lemme be the first to comment: The arabesque guitar solo with the heavy Ritchie Blackmore influence in “Cheetah” alone makes this adorable.

wooooo you do read minds! i was just thinking it would be great to hear some metal right now. it’s raining where i am so it’s cold and dark. not sure if it’s really that kind of metal but thank you so much!

Great! I love “Cheetah.” The venerable Neal Kay believed this crew to be a bunch of ignorant posers (http://nwobhm.info/nwobhm/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=43&Itemid=42) but I must disagree. Their stuff is great, from “Way of Kings” to the ridiculous keyboard-cheese and alien theme of “Red Skies” to the pleasant lyrical/thematic surprise that is “Suffragettes.”

Damn, I just wanted to comment on the DEEP PURPLE reference of Cheetah – the guitar solo, but also the organ. But you yourself were first.
Great stuff!

Not bad, but I have to admit I have my own ideal of what a band with a name like “White Spirit” should sound like!

Does a reissue of this pop rock crap really exist? Not that i’m interested, but i’m amazed the initial pressing ever sold out! Good for a laugh though!

Von Trier is almost as crappy at films as Jello Biafra is at his recordings.

What’s wrong with pop rock? The Ramones were a great band!

Back to the Grind has always been one of my favourite songs since the first time I heard it on a compilation album. I have all their stuff, but too lazy to dig it out, so thanks, crackly sound or not.
Curious to hear Cheetah since I don’t remember it.
I can upload all their stuff if nobody can find it om other blogs

Don’t compare the Ramones with this pop rock crap! You must be kidding. Ramones 1976 debut destroys this little White Spirit record with only one power chord!
[Reply]
What on earth do the Ramones have to do with this, Allan? These are two separate bands, with music as similiar as it is different. This kind of argument reminds of when I was 12 and the question whether AC/DC were better than Black Sabbath …..

Black Sabbath! Yeah!

Your mind walks mysterious ways, Erich. I can’t really get “Cheetah” and “Antichrist” on the same page, except that both are great in their very own way.
Anyway, just wanted to say that I had completely erased White Spirit from my mind. Bad mistake. This is truly great stuff. And the 7″ is so much better than the LP (which I like). All hail Janick Gers. Anyway, damn you, Erich, for putting that friggin’ song in my head. I can’t do without it anymore. and it follows me everywhere I go.

And damn you too, Thomas, for bringing it back into my silly head! The opening riff, mate – that’s so much 70s, it’s scary!

Thanks a lot. One of my (many) fave bands. Have not seen Anti Christ yet, but those who did says I should not?! Is ‘Breaking the Waves’ one of his
…heavy stuff!
Yes, I will buy White Spirit official releases!

This past weekend I found this 7″ for $10AUD(about 3 euro cents-haha third world currency) at a record fair. Happy Sunday shopping.
