Classic Connecticut Hardcore – VIOLENT CHILDREN featured past, future or part-time members of REFLEX FROM PAIN (and YOUTH OF TODAY).
Forget for a second what a comedy Hardcore soon turned out to be: This EP smokes! Snotty, raw, high-energy Hardcore, not too ambitioned, not too serious – just a fucking rager! When I ripped this today, I played it for the first time in maybe years and I was so surprised how fresh it still sounds. And “Warren the Thief” made me kinda think of Rob Noxious and Peter KBD. I couldn’t pick a fave out of these 8 smokers, could you? They’re all simple and effective, but really frisky and metal-free,
This 7″ was extremely hard to come by in the 80s. It was among my top wants for a long time, but I never was lucky enough to actually find me a copy. It was in a record shop in L.A. where finally in 1988 I found a pristine copy for 5$. I believe a meager 500 were made of this. In the early, this was booted in Switzerland by a friend of mine, who also booted the incredible VIOLENT CHILDREN demo tape (and others like STALAG 13, B.G.K. etc.). He died by his own hand nearly 15 years ago.

PS: In the meantime, Dave posted the demo 7″, called “Rock against Spindlers”. I’ve never seen this version, but I tend to believe it’s the official reissue. A smoking hot piece you need to download!

This one has always reminded me of early but just a little little bit slower. I was and still is too annoyed by the solo wanking here and there. Too bad cause otherwise this is great!! “Warren the Thief” mmm the love song about me and Rob
.
[Reply]
early DRI that is! sorry!
[Reply]
Guitar wanking? DRI?? C’mon Peter, haha.
[Reply]
I wanted to hear this for a long time now and I must say I’m pretty much in love with these songs after the first “spin”.
[Reply]
Fuck I was wrong again
. But I’m glad I made you laugh.
[Reply]
Bought this on a show in Philly (?). Solo wanking? Dude I played the ep only to to find the solo wanking you mentioned but couldn’t find any. Then I checked your bands FLAKES mp3 I downloaded and found PLENTY of wanking. Dude you’re on a strange kind of a trip.
[Reply]
Uh oh they’re after Peter again, ha ha. It sucks to have an opinion, even a humorous one. Now this would be the exact opposite of (Impatient) Youth or as you said Erich “brutalâ€, “heavy†or “massiveâ€. Actually maybe none of those but maybe more like Peter said and a bit like early DRI. Love that sound. You really pulled a nice one out of your ass on this sir. Thanx
[Reply]
Ha ha here we go again. Why don’t you just go and fuck yourself “joe pesci”. If you fucktards can’t take what other people think and not think please commit suicide.
[Reply]
Easy Peter. Compared to the FLAKES, VC are indeed kinda unwanky. For what it’s worth. I LOVE good guitar wanking, but that ain’t news haha.
[Reply]
Erich, what’s your favorite wanking band?
[Reply]
One fave band? MILLIONS
[Reply]
Easy? No way. As long as failed abortions surfing around the web giving anonymous comments I will wankeli wink comments back.
You have to have the most retarded people ever coming here Erich ha ha.
[Reply]
Hahaha, well, I’m pretty sure they’ll leave comments under different names over at yours.
[Reply]
What? Are they the ones praising all the powerpop. I´m stoked
!
[Reply]
“You have to have the most retarded people ever coming here Erich ha ha.”
who’s that knocking on my door?
[Reply]
Erich, when are you going to put up the first Spinal Tap demo tape??? It is fucking incredible. I had it on a CDR but Rob Noxious stole it…

Another killer post. Easier to come by on the Die Jerry Die comp–easily the best legit “repress” comp ever, with the CIA, Reflex from Pain, Vatican Commandos and Lost Generation 7 inches as well. Personally I think Reflex from Pain took it to a much higher level, and CIA is in a class all its own, but this fucking rips and worth every penny of those 5 Lincolns, LOL.
[Reply]
yet another band i’ve discovered thanks to you. i like a lot of new hardcore but maybe that’s just because i’m yung. erich you’ve changed my life!
[Reply]
Peter: I don’t know what your problem is and I won’t start name calling you. All I said was that I can’t hear “solo wanking” on this ep but I could hear a lot of wanking on your band’s ep. So what? Who’s the one who can’t live with opinions different than his own? You pathetic man. And if this sounds like slower DRI than ANY hardcore band will sound like slower DRI. My guess: You didn’t really listen to these songs, like a lot of your judgement often seems to be totally missing the point. From what I understand, you’re the collector type who doesn’t care much for the music at the end of the day. How old are you? 30? 35? Anyway, thanks for this Admin. Lot of good memories.
[Reply]
GG Allin: Keep on rocking! Are you the guy who sent me a photo with a Savage Circle “Hardcore rules”" tattoo?
Dewey: You can’t really compare RFP, VC and CIA, I think. Totally different approaches and yeah, CIA is hard to beat anyway. That Die Jerry Die comp is nice, with the minimal art and all. Unfortunately the sound was kinda weak (didn’t it say somewhere that the VC mastertapes couldn’t be found?). When I desperately neeeded money, I sold my copy on ebay for like 70$. Wish I hadn’t done it, cause I’m a sucker for comps.
[Reply]
Your HC posts are always the best, followed by the metal stuff (nasty savage is awesome!). Could live without the shitty punk records (let Peter post these). Appreciate your work.
[Reply]
good EP, but I prefer REFLEX FROM PAIN one much more…
[Reply]
Yep I posted the 93 reissue of “Spindlers”. Since people are talking Reflex From Pain now I think I’ll throw their flexi disc on the old blog today.
[Reply]
I think the wanking on this is great and keeps it from sounding too generic. VC was my first hardcore show, opening for the CroMags, and totally blew me away. They had stage dynamics to spare (much like YOT). Lots of sweat, stage diving and synchronized jumping, hahaha. This came out on a Lost and Found CD in the 90′s, can’t wait to compare your rip. Very cool, thanks.
[Reply]
“joe pesci” the question is what your problem are. I voiced my opinion and you couldn´t take it. What does that say? What does my band have ANYTHING to do what I think and not think ha ha? Retards. If you hear a lot of wanking in my band it´s cause we where thinking of your mother while recording it.
So with you´re genius logic someone is missing the point when they don´t agree with your taste and what you think you hear in something? Ha ha LOL.
Yeah I´m 21 and doesn´t care about the music at all that´s why always talks about pressing numbers, different pressings etc in all my post. You are truly are a total freak. Please piss off!
[Reply]
“Piss off” – on my blog?! Where dyou want Joe to go – to yours? Hahaha.
[Reply]
Ah cool, I never had the insert
Anyway, neat little EP
@dewey decimal: the die jerry die comp is pretty obscure (unless its been repressed, but I dont think so) only 400 made of that one, which makes it rarer then any of the originals
[Reply]
no erich i’m a kid who’s really interested in hardcore and gg allin of corse. you and peter are both awesome.
[Reply]
Do you want some tissues to wipe the brown off your arm?
[Reply]
The solo wanking is on the song “new pride”…..Yingwie Malmsteen would be jealous, my favourite song btw, i first listened to it in a 90′s sxe compilation CD put out by that german bootleg label some guy mentioned above (yeah man I wish I was born earlier to witness the “scene” “back in the day”, but what can I do)
I love the guitar tone on this EP…. the ingenuous lyrics (that anti cigarrette song on the demo is their best)… the fast beats…. what’s not to like?
[Reply]
i’ve listened to a lot of metal so i like solos. i don’t know why you guys don’t like solos. i do hear some dri on this but that’s just me.
[Reply]
Kinda cool, but I agree with the guitar wanking – those twiddly little solos for the sake of it just get annoying, they are the dog equivalent of a yapping chihuahua! If I wanna hear early hardcore guitar solos then hit me with Die Kruezen or Code of Honour – oomph with a bit of feeling. Good to finally hear this though – I remember when I got the 7 seconds LP with one of them wearing the Violent Children t-shirt & always seeing it on want lists in MRR – I was convinced I was missing out on something big, hmmm…maybe not. But as usual the blog is top notch …I raise a glass in yr general direction
[Reply]
hey don’t get me wrong fellas… i like solos too.
yapping chihuahua…. hahaha
[Reply]
haha. this was recorded in my mom’s basement and I got to play drums on “live free or die”.
[Reply]
ian—code of honor? more like a pound o’weakness with a bit o’ feeling. No offense, but the only thing COH has on Violent Children is better cover artwork. Now Die Kreuzen, that’s another story, and in a league of their own (for 2 records anyway).
jerry b–didn’t know the die jerry die was that rare. Cool.
[Reply]
peter went to jail for trying to run over rob because he smelled bad!
[Reply]
thx – this does indeed smoke!
[Reply]
Does anyone know where I can get the lyrics for these tracks?
[Reply]
They’re here, a bit small maybe. Can’t you see them?
[Reply]
Holy shit, I’ve been looking for Warren the Thief for YEARS!! At one point I thought I only dreamed of that song. Never knew who did it, was on a mix tape buddy made in high school circa ’86. Thanks for posting this, made my day!!
[Reply]
Used to see them all the time. I remember the day I drove from Mahopac to Danbury to buy this. First time I saw them they opened for a band playing their first show billed as Reflex From CIA later to be christened 76% Uncertain. Once saw them at a park in Danbury with a Rush cover band and a forgotten new wave band where the Punks all played track ball and frisbee among all the families and the singer Dave was carried from through the crowd to the stage above the crowd seated on a skateboard while the band played their intro instrumental. I could go on with the memories.
