I knew Jake in Chicago in the late 1980s. He did rather odd Santeria-inspired tattoos here. I remember him mentioning his old band with affection.
He was a nice guy. I was very sorry to hear he died. RIP.

Jake, Brian, and Mott were in a band called “Society’s Grudge” before PSW, like in 1981-82 or so. Jake sang, Mott played drums, and Brian played guitar. Tim Tharp was the Bass player. Brian wrote the song “Arsonist” for SG. It was a thrasher–Schleich slowed it down in parts for PSW, and that is the version heard on the “Language of a Dying Breed” LP. SG played 5 shows total, all at “The Hall” on 27th and Randolph Streets in Lincoln, NE.

Come on Russ–we ruled Lincoln when it was fashionable to hate us. You were our best friend, and stuck with us through that wild time–it all seems like a blur these days what with the drugs and alcohol and all. Sadly, 2 of my best friends died, 3 if you include Mott who did our artwork and was a good friend of the band in rough times. They were all rough times. “Mine are the Eyes of God.” The best COC song ever written.

That flyer is funny because their was a DAV bar in the basement of the Fool Killer in KC–that’s where we spent most of our off-stage time. Bud cans–and the little old ladies worked the bar. We became good friends with the Dicks, and AOD were fantastic to see and party with. They both befriended our band at a time when everyone else thought we were odd-balls. Remember Brown-25 from Ok. C? Them and NOTA?

Jake and Steve both OD’d and died. Yup, Schleich was a lawyer and in law school at the time we recorded this album. They were both close friends and confidents–I am sad at their passing. I attended both funerals. At the time that we made this album–the only other band in town was a skate-punk band. We were the odd-balls. We finished every night at the Brickyard–we did not start our set before 11:00 pm. Thank you for posting–

Jake died of a heroin od in Phoenix, AZ. Steve died of a “drug” od in AZ. at his family’s Winter house some years later. Looking at the Brickyard pics. it makes me sad that 2 of my best friends are dead

I still have this vinyl. I met these guys in Salt Lake City in 85. They were supposed to play with Gang Green but those assholes never showed up.

If you ever see the movie SLC punk – the very opening scene is a shot of a red brick building under an overpass. I smoked pot with POTSW in their van under that viaduct and the red building is were Raunch Records was.
