A classic record, for sure!

I have a question… My copy (I chanced upon it in a used bin here in the UK in 1979 – I knew the band by name only at the time – no else did, and I picked it up for a meagre 30 pence…) has the same sleeve as the one in your pic, has white labels and a large centre hole. But a different sleeve exists…

Here’s a copy of the 7″ with that sleeve which just sold on eBay:

My vinyl is identical to the eBay copy (and seemingly the Flickr copy as well), but with the goodbadmusic.com sleeve

Do I have the first pressing? Did the first press come in two different sleeves?

The Flex discography states: “First press with original sleeve; second press with new sleeve and silver labels”. And I read somewhere else (forgot to note down where) “Second press has large centre hole & stylised label”.

I’m confused! This has been bugging me for years… can anyone shed any light on this?? Thanks for any thoughts…

Agree with Erich: faster and louder than the average 77 Punk Rock record (Damned, Pistols, Clash), to be considered plain Punk Rock (neither Hardcore, of course)
Anyway: what two tremendous songs! Can’t decide which one is the best… Love it when at the end of “Hate the rich”, the chord sequence changes into a more kickass one. Glee!!!

I wish everytime someone heard a hot-shit “punk” record, they wouldn’t instantly demean it by calling it “hardcore” . I don’t hear any auctioneer vocals here! It would be like calling a true “rockabilly” record “rock and roll”, you are not doing anyone any favors with that description.

Also, don’t forget the Dils played this record live in the first Cheech and Chong film!

So unpowerful and thin. Just the way I like it. The drumming here just rocks and so does the guitar sound. Very HCish. I tried to copy that sound for a long time. Finally I found a Yamaha 40 Watt amp that was pretty close to replicate it together with a Hagstrom guitar.

I heard the Masque was more violent than any other punk club in those days, even CBGB’s!
