THE FREEZE- I hate Tourists, b/w Don’t forget me Tommy 7″ (Rebel Records, USA, 1980)

All of a sudden, when I was riding my metrosexual bike today, I had “Don’t forget me Tommy” in my head. What a great simple melancholic song. THE FREEZE’s debut sounds like it was recorded with the cheapest equipment and not mixed at all. But I’ll be damned if this is not a fantastic record! As always, Cliff’s vocals are outstanding.

I’ve seen both red and yellow sleeve variations of this. Mine had no insert - does yours have one?

The Freeze were one of the best live bands. Used to see them frequently and once almost got into a fight with the drummer haha. Sorry pal!

I used to think this sucks. But truth is it’s the best they ever did. Thanks for the mp3 files!

Has anyone else ever noticed the startling similarities between ‘I Hate Tourists’ and ‘Electrocute Your Cock’ by Vom? Those two songs have an undeniably similar rhythmic structure which defines the main part of each song. Granted, it’s a very simplistic rhythm which has probably been used in songs throughout the history of music, but it is strangely similar. And since Vom’s song came first, perhaps there was some (accidental?) influence on The Freeze. Apparently, both songs were minor regional radio hits at the time of their respective releases, as well. It is also interesting to note that while The Freeze hail from Boston, Vom were from L.A. And don’t forget that the Freeze are best known for writing one of the absolute greatest hardcore songs of all time: This is Boston, Not L.A. The assertion of a guilty face, perhaps? Stick THAT in your eye.

One(if not the only of the one I’ve heard) of the few records where the reissue actually sounds better! Don’t forget me Tommy is ridiculous bad.

Ok…hold on. How come everyone has a fucking color sleeve on theirs? Mine has no sleeve, just a fucking white innersleeve. Oh well, great record. I love their “hardcore” stuff too! Ha!

My all time favorite band. Saw them three times last summer on tour to match how many times I saw them in the breif period of time I lived in Boston. Still amazing live, and great guys to boot.
Anyone who’s a fan should check out the recently “re-discovered” and released ‘Live at the Mill Hill Club 1980′. A whole different sound to some well known classics, and some songs that have never seen the light of day before.

Never heard this one, and while it’s kind of goofy, it’s catchy too.
    thanks!

Wow, that’s so basic it almost sounds like Liiminarina. I always liked the classic Freeze albums like Land of the Lost for their surprising blunt force. It sounds like generic rock, but then POW, there’s a punch below the belt waiting.

I picked up the Freeze’s Misery Loves Company CD last summer in Biel-Bienne of all places, from a 3/10CHF outdoor sale bin along with a weird Swedish death metal project called Leukemia, and a Fear of God CD (Dawn Crosby edition). All hail the power of cheap leftovers!

I’m going to have the pleasure of opening up for these guys July 19th in Asbury Park NJ! This band is what it was all about for mein the 80’s. Faster and louder! Now if only F.O.D. and A.O.D. would be on the bill, I could die a happy dust farter!
