And we go with the first promotional record I received.
Berlin’s “Thought Crime Records” was founded in 1995 Jens (of the german thrash kings PINK FLAMINGOS) and Thomas (now in SOLID DECLINE). After Jens quit the label, Thomas continued the work and this is the first of the new label releases that I hear.
And what can I say – I was fairly surprised when I put on SOLID DECLINE! The band was formerly known as Y and was quite a steamroller in its early days and the band’s first 7″ is definitely worth a listen. «Besides diverse other sources they’re paying homage to 80ies American HC, but not necessarily to the early Boston, DC or LA scenes that have become revivaled to death these days. It´s rather bands like early Hüsker Dü, Christ On Parade, Die Kreuzen etc. whose legacy you can sense when you listen with an open mind», is what the label has to say about SOLID DECLINE. Apart from the obvious influences such as INFEST or RORSCHACH, SOLID DECLINE make me think of the way Italian HC of the mid 80s had filtered the original american HC, rather than american HC itself. Songs like “Wahrheit” or “Elephant Walk” are perfect examples for this. Fucking great, metalfree post-Hardcore with enough power and aggression and a feeling of urgency you don’t hear too often anymore. The 14 songs of theirs have a nearly perfect sound (especially the rhythm section crushes!) and are definitely the best post-Hardcore I heard in many years! More of this, please!
Here are three of the 14 songs for you to check out:
Elephant Walk.mp3
Kommando Untergang.mp3
Wahrheit.mp3
On the flip we find RUIDOSA INMUNDICIA, a young band from Vienna / Austria. Why their titles are in spanish, this I do not know.
Well, this is not my cup of tea. Sure, some songs have enjoyable moments – until the singer comes in. Sorry, but I just can’t stand these pressed, powerless hysterical Micky Mouse style vocals. Something has gone terribly wrong in the 90s.
Here’s one song for you to hear for yourself:
Condiciones inhumanos.mp3
One last word about the packaging: It’s a great looking silk-screened folded cardboard, with the lyrics on the inside. The vinyl is red and I think you better hurry and get yourself one of these – the SOLID DECLINE side alone is worth it. Click here to get to the label’s website.

Ha ha ha I’m laughing to tears cause right now I’m listening Ruidose Inmundicia. Ok now the song is over. Pew. Thank you! Really annoying and generic.
BUT HOLY!!!!!! Solid Decline. Right up my ally(or ass if you want). The vocals are bit one dimensional but the song writing is superb. Send me a copy.

fuck you’re right. SOLID DECLINE totally DESTROY!!! The other band is crap (it’s a girl singing btw). Man you really have taste it’s scary.
[Reply]

… and I was just about to post Steiffen’s first band IMMANUEL CUNT’s 7″ ……..
[Reply]
Just wanted to tell you that these three songs get better and better each time I play them!!!!
[Reply]
“… and I was just about to post Steiffen’s first band IMMANUEL CUNT’s 7″ ……..”
which is at the same time my “other” band as well
[Reply]
SD are really good. Like it. The australian band ….. what the hell is this supposed to be? that’s not hardcore and not even metal it’s just a pig pile of SHIT. i hate these new bands i hate it to see how they totally destroy what we built up. fuck them all! don’t post more shit like this again.
[Reply]
@ beat me: you took the words right out of my mouth!
[Reply]
[Reply]
i seriously wonder what “beat me” has built up if he likes crap bands like solid decline. they sound like a fucking tractor driving into a chicken farm! fuck this, i wanna hear real punk music and none of this noisecore bullshit!!
[Reply]
RE: Maik
Solid Decline are far, FAR from noisecore. You would probably die of shock if you heard 7 Minutes Of Nausea you idiot.
RE: ::beatMe::
If you don’t hear any hardcore influence in RI, you suck at listening to music.
Now that that’s out of the way, this split LP rules. I had to download it cause the US pressing isn’t out yet, but as soon as it is I will be ordering a copy faster than Solid Decline’s old band Y played music, haha.
[Reply]
Zach, candidly spoken, I can’t hear much “Hardcore” in RI. Hardcore is over since more than 20 years. At least have the decency to call it post-Hardcore.
[Reply]
ha, ha, far out folkes! i think steiffen is the only one with a clue here. is your first name christian by the way?
[Reply]
Maik, if this is the way future debates will be upon posting post-HC releases, then I might reconsider my decision ….
[Reply]
Erich, I like this new added feature on your blog, please keep it going. Unfortunately what we have here is a lack of respect. I may not like a band but I do respect their efforts, as anyone who has played music should know. Bands put a lot of hard work into what they do and they do it for us. When your mom made you a meal that “sucked” did you spit it out back in her face?
[Reply]
Justin, you don’t really compare bands with your mom, do you?
[Reply]
Ha Ha always the humor sir, maybe not the best metaphor. My first thought was to use a restaraunt. If you notice my wording though, I said “your mom”. I hope the rest of that made sense though. It gets a little old when people spout off that this band sucks or that band is a peice of shit. I wish people would give some of these bands a little credit. Thanx for the comment on SM, would love to hear SAS. Thanx for your time.
[Reply]
Haha, sorry for being such a cheeky bastard, Justin. I can’t help it.
But, one a more serious note, I think it’s absolutely right and necessary to say a band sucks when it sucks. Let’s face it: Most bands are total shit. My guess would be way above 99%.
[Reply]
No worries. I think you’re right 99% of bands do suck but what do we base that criticism on? Is there anything constructive to that criticism or is it just an opinion? What sucks lyrics, composition, musicianship, vocals, surely not everything. Is there anything good about that band? What’s next, do we boo them when we see them live, spit on them or perhaps throw shit at the them. No, just put them out of there misery and shoot them.
[Reply]
“I may not like a band but I do respect their efforts, as anyone who has played music should know.” seriously I’ve never cared if people thought my bands sucked and told me that. It’s all about different taste. If you can’t stand a “this band sucks so much I can feel the size of the turd in my mouth.” I think it’s time to find another hobby.
[Reply]
hey justin, what do you think is this supposed to be here, hands across america or what? i mean, others shout out stuff like “wow, band xyz totally destroys” etc. so whats the deal if others say “gosh, it sucks as”. i dont see your problem at all.
by the way, i actually DO boo and spit on bands. but i never considered throwing shit on bands, should really think about that one….oh and shooting is out of the question ’cause: illegal!
[Reply]
Hahahaha Steiffen (translates as “Stiffy”, btw). I love you.
[Reply]
Ha Ha, yeah my other “hobby” is my ant farm. You guys kill me. I am kicking myself now because I respect both your and Erich’s opinion and made these comments without even listening to RI. Erich said it wasn’t his cup of tea so I didn’t bother. I just listened to them and didn’t think they were too bad. You’re right Peter, “It’s all about different taste”. I was just hoping you guys would get a little philosophical with me. So I will ask again, what is your criteria? Meanwhile I will keep my opinions to myself and get started right away on another hobby.
[Reply]
Ha ha ha come on Justin
. This frightened me:”Erich said it wasn’t his cup of tea so I didn’t bother.” that’s the problem with too many people. You let another person decide for you what you may like or not. Come on the songs are one click away.
[Reply]
hello??anybody home???
[Reply]
Easy, Justin, easy.
Yeah, I said “not my cup of tea” but in fact, I thought that it sucked real bad. This judgment of mine is compiled from various aspects, but that’s not really important. Important is: It doesn’t move me a bit (well, apart from making me want to jump off the couch and turn it off), but I don’t care about such bands. I would have hated them if they were around back then (these clean cut, sloganeering kids never lasted longer than 2 or 3 years anyway), but thanks Satan they weren’t. Now, they just bore me to death. Solid Decline kick me because I think they sound like they were not inspired by 3rd generation crap (oops).
[Reply]
what’s wrong with you nice guys? if something sucks then let’s just not say it but be real constructive and nice and empower them to release the next load of crap??!!!! here’s what i think: ruidosa blabla suck shit. shit shit shit. i hate emo screamo bands. they should all fall of the edge of the world now.
[Reply]
Now we’re fuckin talking. Good stuff, bravely from our keyboards.
Steiffen, how’d you guess that was my other hobby, hands across America. I like how it’s okay for people to have their opinions but not okay for me to have mine. Punk fucking rock. It’s cool that your brave enough to spit on a band but you’re worried about doing something illegal. “gosh”
Peter your right, it’s the idiot in me. I think it’s about thinking that an opinion has any value at all. Otherwise it’s just verbal vomit.
Maik, I’m right fuckin here. Just trying to stimulate a more detailed dialogue besides that shit sucks. Oh well, I tried.
Like I said no worries Erich I dig these comments. I just needed something to do this morning beside drink coffee and smoke cigarettes. It beats getting spit on by Steiffen. Thank you for giving me some criteria for a band sucking. Actually thanks to all you guys, Peter, Steiffen, Maik, Erich for my morning entertainment.
[Reply]
Let’s praise the Desperate Bicycles now ok.
[Reply]
Justin: Really sorry I couldn’t give you detailed and objective criteria, nor truth whatsoever. These are god forsaken times we live in
[Reply]
I also hate emo/screamo shit. Rudiosa Inmundicia is not a screamo band. Are you people fucking deaf?
[Reply]
Shut up kid.^^^
I like Solid Decline. I’m sorry to say but the other band is “not my cup of tea” (or how Eric also said: it “sucks real bad”).
[Reply]
My band, THE THEM, is playing with Solid Decline on Aug 4th at Funhouse, Seattle, WA. The most fun you can have on a Monday night! Ha!
[Reply]
I don’t have this record (could be terrible) but saw Ruidosa Inmundicia 3 times last week and they were great. The singer is Chilean which explains the spanish name.
hi peter and erich
[Reply]
Hi Brian – good to see you here!
[Reply]
ruidosa inmundicia are one of the tightest and most energetic live acts in europe these days. they are playing all over repeatedly and always to great audience response. their drummer is constantly booking good shows in vienna for years, and the singer from chile has nothing short of one of the most remarkable female voices in hardcore punk.
you can of course slag them off as much as you want to here but dropdead’s brian is not the only one coming from a respected background to enjoy what they do (and they know damn well what they do and why they are doing it).
[Reply]
Dropdead and R.I. definitely share common ground as far as the complete boredom goes that their music means to me. Disposable.
[Reply]
In an interesting twist Dropdead and Ruidosa Inmundicia are doing a split 7″ now. I assume we won’t be seeing it in this blog haha.
