GAUZE- Fuck Heads 12″EP (ADK, Japan, 1984)

Fuck BearsGAUZE is one of the longest running original Hardcore bands, formed in Japan in 1981. The group’s output however has been rather moderate, with five 12ers, a couple of comp tracks and one 7″ (the latest LP has just been released). I’ve never seen them live, but everybody who has, says that these guys pretty much destroy everything. This I believe to be the truth.
When I bought GAUZE’s second 12″ «Equalizing Distort», I was literally shocked. Rarely has such ferocity and power been unleashed! The vegetarians and crusties soon learned to hate the band due the song “Crash the pose”:

Crash the pose
Put my dickhead in tofu
Put Soya sauce, and then you are happy
Vegetarian
Crash the pose
Crash the lie
Don’t eat this! Don’t eat that
I don’t have to obey you
I’m satisfied to eat
Crash the pose
Crash the lie
Eat meat
Fuck off the vegetarian
Crash the pose
Posh stupid people, don’t say anything
Spent much money to buy nature
Don’t be satisfied
Crash the pose
Whale and human flesh, if I get hungry
I eat them, eat them, eat them

This is the first LP. As you can hear, the band’s formula of “sounding fast without playing fast” (a fascinating concept of GAUZE) is already fully developed. What a record! My advice would be to start with the B-side first, cuz the “Love song” totally crushes. Listen to the lower as hell sounding tom beats at the beginning – CRAZY!!!!!
As far as I know, «Fuck Heads» has never been available on CD, at least Soulseek only has a couple lousy vinyl rips to offer. It’s been re-released on vinyl recently (including several extra songs). Get it from the label directly and say I sent thee thither. Edit: This seems to be a bootleg release.

One editorial note: Most of the songs aren’t really separeted one from another on the vinyl. I split these into two, with utmost care. When you burn yourself a CD, just make sure you don’t add space between the songs and you’ll have the record the way the band cut it. The japanese song titles’ english transciptions come from the KFTH page.
Here in consumer unfriendly single-song download mode, but in the best mp3 quality. Now go and buy the vinyl, fuckhead.

  5. This album did get reissued along with their other stuff on CD a few years ago by XXX Records: http://www.xxxrecords.jp/XXX/index.html. Good luck finding it outside of Japan though; I couldn’t.

I think that LP you linked to is a (good quality) bootleg. TKO definitely didn’t put it out. It’s getting pretty rare so you might as well pick it up. Cheers.

Actually, all Gauze LPs are available on CD In Japan from XXX Records. The first four come with stickers of the cover art for each album, respectively. If anyone out there is after them, you can get them from many Japanese mailorder shops, so try NAT Records, BASE, BOY, etc. Hell, you can even get them off the Japanese Amazon.com!

“Power” was/is one of my all-time fave songs E-V-E-R!!!

I don’t think any crusties/vegans hate the band Erich…my theory is “they’re Japanese and OLD, so THAT MAKES IT OKAY”.

    D-U-M-B!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love that line about eating whale meat AND human eat! FUCKIN’ PUNK ROCK HATERS YO!!!

as stated before XXX records reissued all of the lps on cd. to my knowledge there were never any vinyl reissues of the lps. absolute power did the bootleg fuckheads lp (they were they same ones who did several of the high quality GISM bootleg lps).

  15. I recommend tracking down the 25th anniversary video or cd (yes on the internet) where they play literally all their songs in rapid procession. Absolutely so cool. CRASH THE POSE!!!!!!!!!

  21. The fifth Gauze LP is about to be released on Prank for the U.S. / Europe on Vinyl LP. There were no plans to make a vinyl Lp version of the Japanese press…so stay tuned. Maybe if it works out we can convince them to re-do the other records at some point.

Thanks for the Gauze post, they’re one of the best bands coming out of Japan. I prefer their later stuff too but this one is really unique.

And yeah, as witnessed on THIS video :

this song was written to make fun of some of the GASTUNK guys that went vegetarian for a while and were really trying to push it on everyone in the scene. then, they broke down after a year and started eating meat again. this is GAUZE’s “fuck you” tribute song. it doesn’t really have much to do with vegetarians; it’s aimed at GASTUNK.
as for vinyl, the originals were all on SELFISH records; anything else a a bootleg. the cds on XXX are legit. The label is run by GAUZE members.
