ASEXUALS- s/t 7″EP (OG Music, Canada, 1984)

asexuals_front.jpgasexuals_back.jpgIt’s been a while since we’ve had a band from Canada, so here’s the ASEXUALS first 7″. Released shortly before the band’s much acclaimed (well, I acclaimed it muchy muchy) “Be what you want” LP, which was followed by the kinda corny and over-ambitious “Contemporary World” LP. The band then morphed into the DOUGHBOYS and had one fantastic longplayer (the title escapes me right now, but I could get off my chair and take a look, but don’t even think about that).
All the four songs are catchy little fuckers, a slight Mongo touch maybe, but “Stand up” is really the stand out here and shows the later direction of the band.
One thing though. Song number 2, “B.F.D.”, has a pressing mistake onto the vinyl. So here’s what I did: I took out the 10 seconds unplayable and inserted something new, just like that, because I’m an anarchist of love, and if you can find out what the song is called and by whom it is, you will get a free record from me (my choice). Okay? I know, this is totally lame, but that’s just how I feel at the moment. Know the song – drop me a line!

Sue, it could be Guns & Roses, or it could be Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Unfortunately, it’s neither one of them.

No but maybe BTO as they were from Canada

C’mon, I know, it’s not easy, but at least the band should be easy to hear out.

Yes, Blake – they were on “Primitive Air Raid”, with one killer song (“Contra Rebel”) that later appeared on the the first album. A overall great and almost forgotten comp. lp, by the way.

You’ve got, Simon? Ah, you meant “Big Balls” by AC/DC? Kinda close, but no, it is not.
I must say: You guys kinda disappoint me. I would recognize the song immediately …. (maybe).

Well then, you’ve got to admit just before it cuts back to Asexuals, it sounds like Big Balls. And to me, in my defence, solos generally blur into an amalgam of guitarists!
Anyway, I’m not the world’s greatest Metal fan by any means, but thanks for turning me on to Angelwitch.

Glad to hear I could bewitch you with Angelwitch. And believe me – liking them makes you a potential great metal fan!

Yepp, you’re very close with Big Balls. These solos sound very much alike, especially these old bluesy ones from Angus Young. If nobody finds out, from which song it is, I will actually reveal and post it (and hope, my blog doesn’t get shut down).

Pär, I love you. You’re so right …. most AC/DC fand will never have heard this song, although it’s one of the band’s wildest and best.
    Now I helped you guys enough …. c’mon ……..

Sorry, Pär – it’s not “Rocking in the Parlour” (which is kinda funny, but all in all not really the AC/DC we love).
There’s one song, the band for totally mysterious reasons NEVER re-released, it was the b-side of the australian “Dog eat Dog” 7″ and this song is entitled (drum roll) “Carry me Home”. It’s from either the “Let there be Rock” or “Powerage” sessions, it’s VERY rough and a TOTAL whirlitzer of an avalanche top-off-blower, with some of Bon’s best singing – ot’s so fucking over the top.
I thought you guys maybe have heard that song, but then again, it’s hard to come by and the 7″ sells for 300$ on ebay when it turns up.

Aaaa, Carry me home! Don´t think that I´ve heard it that many times but wan´t that song on in the Bonfire box set?

  24. Admin wrote:

Nope, Pär – “carry me home” was not re-issued. You probably never heard the song before?

  25. Pär wrote:

I had it on some bootleg collection I downloaded so I had heard it before but not that many times. Listening to it right now nad I can´t belive that they hasn´t included it on some more official release. It totally rips!

Being a hockey puck, saw these guys many times in the mid-80′s. Great guys, even though I can’t say I was the biggest fan of theirs or nothin’– live they were a blast though; playing everything about 10 times faster than on the LPs. Particularly memorable was a show they played in a 150 capacity (MAX!) pub with the Dayglo Abortions– I think we had about a 6 X 6 ft. area to jump around like idiots and body surf and whatnot. So people were stacking up tables and diving– sometimes onto the cement floor– idiots.

I’m hard-pressed to think of a “good” Doughboys album, though.
