a classic compilation. First time I heard Negative Approach. “1-2-1-2-3-4!!!” Violent Apathy weren’t all that great although two later songs on one of the “Master Tapes” comps were decent–kind of in a mid-tempo Iron Cross-ish vein

Violent Apathy’s demo is much better than the EP. Necros EP was a little overrated but I’m sure it sounded great in ‘81. Never heard it back then but I did have their Conquest For Death LP and that’s still their best release in my opinion.

don`t know. maybe it`s the sound. i remember when my mate bought a bootleg necros discography lp like two years back (worst bootleg i`ve ever seen by the way – no cover, just xero a4 sheet. sounded shitty too) – that was the first time i`ve heard this song, and first thing that came to my mind was – “wow! this sounds much tighter, way more powerful than the ep” i still stick to that first impression… haven`t heard the ep tracks for quite some time though – maybe i should give it a few listens…

Yep, roman – I totally agree on Violent Apathy (never heard the demo though). Not o concerning the Necros: I can’t really hear so much difference between this song here and the ones on the 2nd 7″.

violent apathy must be the most boring us hardcore band ever. necros song is their best – so fast, tight and intense! their 2nd ep sounds really sloppy and weak when compared to this… i can`t understand it. did they reduce rehearsals between recording this and the ep?

I was a temporary member of De Kift back then (been a temporary member longer than I was a “regular” member!). There’s a whole Dutch punk colony in Zurich: Jeroen (ex-Frites Modern alter ego Frenz Fried & Frimo’s), Aad (ex-Zowiso, Morzelpronk), Rienk, as well as Marcel BGK. We had a great time, played Cafe Boy (now gone) and some pub that brewed their own “Vollmond” beer. I forgot where I saw TR. I also saw them back in ‘84 in Am’dam, that was a great gig. First time I saw Pandemonium, too.

I only got to see Toxic Reasons once in ‘84 with Circle Jerks at the Olympic in L.A. and that was an awesome gig. Usually at the Olympic there would be three pits going on and during the Circle Jerks set all the pits combined into one huge swarming slam pit. I felt a sense of unity because no fights broke out. That might have been when the punk scene hit it’s peak cuz it didn’t get any better after that. It got worse with fucking gangs and skinheads.

I don’t think I was there, Niels. I kinda stopped going to gigs in the late 80s because I got so fed up and all. Hmmm, no, I don’t think I saw TR live in the 90s. Where was the gig? De Kift was your band at the time? Did you know that the ex-BGK drummer Marcel lives in Zürich (I take pride in saying I played on his drum kit frequently, haha, when we shared the practice room with Fear Of God in 2003), as well as some guy of Morzelpronk?
