Another pearl and let’s not hope it’s for the swines. NUCLEAR SOCKETTS hailed from West Norfolk / UK and released two EPs and a Flexi Disc (which I’d love to get – anybody has a spare copy?) within short time before disbanding.
Frankly – back in the day, I would never have liked music like this. To me it was about speed and fury and I couldn’t get enough of it. I remember, when a friend of mine kept playing “The curse of the ZOUNDS” LP in his room over and over again and how I’d end up smiling at him while saying: “When will you be done for good with this puberty rock?”. Needless to say, the named LP is among my most beloved records now that I’m a bit wiser. Same with NUCLEAR SOCKETTS – the aura of this band weighs a ton. Rarely have I heard so much feeling in the guitar work as in the masterpiece “Potential Killers”. This is immense.
The label says (c) & (p) 1980, in fact it was released in January 1981 (so we learn from the insert of the followup 7″). Pretty nerdy, eh.

Don’t have the single but I believe the un-named track is called “Pretenders Zeal”.

Just read Ian Glasper’s book ‘The Day the Country Died: Anarcho-punk 1980-1984′ and so dug out some old records. Found most anarcho-punk – example Dirt/ Object Refuse unlistenable, but did find Nuclear Socketts ‘Honour before Glory’ e.p. – not mentioned by Glasper- and it is really really good. A bit Zoundsish I reckon, but then Zounds were brilliant.

Great to listen to this again. @Danny: I’ve got the “What’s so great, Britain?”-EP, I could rip it, but I am new in here and I don’t know how to post.

@ tkk1910 – you cannot (yet) post here. I was thinking of maybe allowing others to (selectively) run their own postings, but it would depend on the quality of the rips etc. if you want, get in touch with me (infoATgoodbadmusic.com).

Must say that the best song with Nuclear socketts is “riot squad” from the onesided flexi released by “trees and flowers”. Magic song.
