Good bad Music for bad, bad Times! / WÜRM- s/t 7″EP (SST, USA, 1982)

WÜRM- s/t 7″EP (SST, USA, 1982)

wur_front.jpgwurm_back.jpgThis is probably the most overlooked early SST release. Do you wanna know why?

The 4 tracks by WÜRM are very chugga-chuggga, lots of Metal and Hardrock poured in way before other bands like SSD or BLACK FLAG or OVERKILL (the SST band) jumped on the same bandwagon. “We’re off” is okay (mainly because it’s short), but the other two tracks really, and I mean reaaaaalllly, do get on your nerves. Especially the wankerish “Now the Time has come” which is complete with cowbell drumming and tries to create a sing-along-atmosphere - horrible.

Interesting side note: Chuck from BLACK FLAG is singing (on the frst track) and playing bass here.

There’s a thin line between good bad and bad bad music, y’know.

This is a pretty cool post. Wurm was Dukowski’s band before Black Flag. He continued playing for them after he left Black Flag.

“Time Has Come Today” was a minor hit by the Chambers Brothers - a soul group from the late 60s. The Ramones covered this song as well.

This is a good blog. Keep up the great work! Keep this music alive!

Thanks Nelson! I didn’t realize “time has come today” is a cover tune. That makes it a bit more tolerable.

That Chamber Brothers song was also covered/mutilated by the Angry Samoans on “Back from Samoa”. Real popular with the punkers and shit.

Haha, I would never ever have guessed that this is the same song tune that the Angry Samoans played. bloody hell!

I first heard Wurms cover of Time Has Come only a couple of years back and it got me curious about the song as I was only familiar with the Angry Samoans version. So I looked it up and discovered the Chambers Bros. original which I loved. Apparently Joan Jett covered this as well as the Ramones, Wurm and the Samoans.

Man this 45 sucks. Thanks for letting me finally hear it. I gotta go listen to the Angry Samoans now, just to clean out my infected brain.

Great Post !! This IS a great long lost disc.
Very Historic SST release. This was Chuck D’s Side band while in Black Flag.

The “Feast” LP is worth seeking out, since it is a rare record and it rocks.
