Think you have heard all italian HC pearls? We’re not quite done yet – here’s Modena’s STIGMATHE!
There’s absolutely nothing I know of this band other than that STIGMATHE had an unreleased 7″ from ’82 which saw the light of day in 1987 (at least, that’s what the “Kill from the Heart” website tells us).
Totally great Italian HC, with super nice gang-vocals and pounding drums – and yes, of course the high-pitched guitars. The melodic b-side track (“Italia Brucia”, “Italy burns”, if my d.i.y.-italian doesn’t fail me) has a weird swedish feel to it, don’t you think, a nice portion of Asta Kask and two-tonism – Friggin’ amazing!
Chances are good you might find this at a reasonable price still, cause it hasn’t been hyped to death yet. If it turns up at all, though (seems to be quite rarely seen).
Some internet sources say, it’s from 1983, some say ’84 – I think it’s from 84 (check the guitar solo on the title track).
PS: This is one of the records that sound good on 33 too – sounds very british then. Haha, what cultimultural babylon we have here.

It’s from 1983. Check closer the b-side’s label, on the left. Second 7″ is from 1985 and the band started in 1983 so it couldn’t have been recorded in ’82. Not as good at all as the first one. They had 2 tx on Raptus comp. LP Vol.2 (one different version of the 2nd track here + an unreleased one) and an official live tape in ’83. Scarce 7″ for sure.

Yer right, there’s a super faint “1983″ on the label, almost invisible.

I’ve got an article here from an old ‘zine (NDF nº 6, 1984, it’s a Spanish translation) written by the band themselves where they say they were formed in february 1982. So that it’s possible that the ’87 single had recordings from ’82.
The rest of the article only speaks of the line-up and then the typical statements of the era (we’re against this and that, etc), so I won’t quote from it.
The Raptus II songs are somewhere in this blog, though they’re not downloadable anymore…, pity.
Yeah, the singer has some Malcolm Owen flavour… (but the band doesn’t sound like the Ruts at all)

Ok, something must be wrong somewhere, here’s
what i got : in TVOR issue 5 – which was out in
april ’85 – Stiv states (quoting) he “just got
an advance tape from Stigmathe with 3 new tracks,
one reaggaeish and 2 punk ones that will be out
on vinyl soon”. And on the booklet of the 2004
“Hate/Love” comp. 2xLP, Stigmathe’s singer
states that the band started in 1983. No other
info in the Italian scene reports in MRR issues
of the time about Stigmathe before the review
of that first 7″. If some band members come
across this, they may clarify about that.

Thanks for the hint, no labels! I’m too very sceptical about the year – that “1983″ imprint on the labels looks very strange to me, plus as I said – the music sounds not like 83 at all.

Well, i don’t know, these 3 tracks feature
on their Live 23/08/83 al Parco Amendola – tape
and the 7″ is reviewed in TVOR issue 4 which
was out in february 1984.

“We’re Stigmathe, a hardcore band from Modena (Italy). We formed in february ’82, after changing drummer and guitarist, now the line-up is: Fabri (vocals), Luca (bass), Gianluca (guitar) and Enrico (drums)…” This is the quote from the ‘zine I mentioned (NDF no. 6, ca. dec. ’84). The guy who made the ‘zine could have misspelt ’82′ for ’83′ anyway, who knows.
They mention here as well that a new (second) single with 3 tracks was about to be released. Could this be the “Sguardi dei morti” EP? Sources differ about the release date, 1985 or 1987, and, like Erich, I read that the recordings were from 1982. (I don’t have that EP.)
As for the “Suoni puri…” EP, my guess is that it was recorded by the end of 83 and released between 83-84. BTW the title seems a homage to TSOL (“Pure i.e. true sounds of liberty”)?
This band appears to be surrounded by mystery, haha. Anybody can enlighten us?

Yeah, Fernando – thought about that TSOL thing too. Also, BEDBOYS came to my mind, “suoni di pace”.
I can only repeat: the music does not sound like 83, at least not to me. If this was recorded in 83, this band was WAY ahead of its time!

For what I remember, the first 7″ (self released) came out in the end of 1983 and the second 7″ in 1985 (on Meccano Records). After the second 7″ the band was talking with Meccano Records for an LP, but the band split up quickly and the LP has bever been recorded.
In the last period, the band became a 3 pieces ’cause they had lost Gianluca (guitar), so Fabri (vocals) has been forced to play guitar too.
Their first release was a 2 tapes set (live + studio) with enclosed some photos and a badge.
