Before the kids in Norway set fire to churches in a rather bizarre religious competition (Satanism vs. Christianity – Christianity won, by the way), there was a short lived and small scene of great original HC Punk in the mid 80s. X-Port Platter was the label for these groups of which BANNLYST or SVART FRAMTID are maybe best known.
I only know little of BARN AV REGNBUEN. Peter from KBD Records once told me the band name translates as “Children of the Rainbow” haha, and I’m damn glad the band sounds not a bit like that actually. Apart from this sought-after 7″, they had some comp tracks, a tape and an awesome Flexi Disc, called “Helter og Skurker!” with four highly enjoyable songs.
It’s kinda weird. When these records first came out, nobody wanted them really, cause everybody was into U.S. HC. To my younger ears, bands like BARN AV REGNBUEN first sounded kinda hard to catch. The straight HC they play always had a melodramatic overtone, mostly coming from the original guitar playing (reminds me much of italian bands and has the typical “euro feel”). Years later, it’s much easier to get an understanding of the music, at least for me. BARN AV REGNBUEN now sound like a band with a vision (what would be the sonic equivalent to a vision? A “hear” maybe? Or just a “sound”?). Truly unique sounding, energetic and so very folded at the same time. Ah, I love that stuff!
I’m not sure whether this was released in 1985 or 1986 – there’s nothing indicated on the sleeeve, except for the textbook inlay which has “1986″ used as part of some graphics. You often see 1984 as a release date for this, but that’s out of question. I tend to believe it came out in 86.

It’s true, I quite liked this EP, the Svart Framtid EP, WCF EP, Tzn Xenna 45, Pure Hate EP and so many other records from the “lesser” hardcore countries that I now see people really wanting, but they were easy to get and easily parted with as we chased down all the cool Japanese and Swedish and US82 vinyl…now I kick myself at how stupid I was. Well, at least these records and scenes are finally getting a bit of the respect they always deserved.

Yeah, it’s from 1986. A discography LP is now out in Norway. 7″ is 1000 copies and 7″ flexi is 3000,
i wonder where they went as they’re almost invisible now.
I came across that band in 1987 on the great
People of the Pit comp.LP which featured, among others: False Liberty, Corrupted Morals, Subterranean Kids and, yes, Raped Teenagers.

my first contact with norwegian hardcore was betong hysteria, which is a fucking great and incredibly intense band. all the other 80s norwegian stuff i heard is top quality as well! i think these bands are much better/more interesting than most of swedish or japanese stuff (which is often highly overrated), and they can outdo many us bands as well…
there must been something special going on in norway at the time! is there any possibility you´ll post barn av regnbuen flexi, bannlyst/angor wat split tape, “ingenting for norge” comp., or any other mid 80s norwegian stuff?? whether or not, thank you so much for posting many GREAT records!!!

idunno…ive had both this EP and the “Helter Og Skurker” flexi. still have the flexi…never cared much for this ep. prtobably the weakest X Port Platter release… the later flexi is one of the top-20 world HC recvords ever made, though. the sound of Confuse or Gai with the intensity and melody of Lama or Asta Kask…and RAGING AS FUKK as the 1st DRI ep or the 1st Suicidal Tendencies LP…seroiusly…in my humble opinion, this ep kinda blows. but the following flexi is one of the best worlds-wide HC records ever made!!!

all those flexis are gone or trashed. every mailorder in the world had them for $1ppd back when it came out, and every 2 or 3 weeks or so id drop another buck in the mail to replace the copy i played the living fukk out of until it shredded into pieces. i finally got a MINT one about 6 years ago on eBay UK for 1p when i bid on it before the seller could revise his mis-spelled listing
