5051- s/t 7"EP (Bias Music, USA, 1982)

Another one I’ve never really cared to get, until I bought it last week for 8$.
5051 is one of the obscurer ’82 bands, though popular among collector scum. I don’t really know much to say about 5051, other than they were from San Diego and rumor has it there’s an unreleased LP in the closet.

What I love about this one is the gloomy Posh Boy sound, the forceful production and the double guitar bits. And the drums sound, like drums should sound! “disciple” is the weakest of the bunch, but even there, the guitar lines help it rom being utterly dispensable. And yes, the singer, sounds pre-pubertarian, but on the other hand, this adds to the charme.
Very desperate overall feeling, methinks, and well worth every bit of hype it can get.

no this is way better than 7inchpunkk. it’s not for the kids and it doesn’t give a shit about what others think posting a lot more variety without posting bullshit. and the quality of both writing and rips is TOP!
Thanks for this!! More Japcore would be great.

I finally tracked down a copy of this single but it cost me a bit more than $8 unfortunately. I really love this ep for the exact reason you stated Erich…”the gloomy Posh Boy sound, the forceful production”. Thanks to your excellent rips I won’t have to wear this one out on the turntable…Dave

  9. I did the lettering of the band name from the front cover by the way.I think I drew them for a flyer and then the band cut and pasted it for the record.I used to hang out with these guys a lot after school in 81/82.I saw Dave last week, might go see him play this weekend.Listening to ‘all by myself’ right now.killer echo on that track, shoulda put that in place of disciple on the record.

Goddamn I love this record! Would love a copy if anyone has one to sell! For a less exuberant price than the solitary copy on discogs!

The prebuscent voice on this record was me. I was 15, so I was in fact just barely post-pubescent. There were only 2 additional tracks recorded that didn’t make the LP: “Pressure” and “All By Myself”—I like these more than the other stuff on the EP, actually. You can hear them at cheunderground.com where you’ll also find the story of the band written by me.
