Good bad Music for bad, bad Times! / PENTAGRAM- s/t 7" (Chainsaw Murder Records, Switzerland, 1987)

PENTAGRAM- s/t 7" (Chainsaw Murder Records, Switzerland, 1987)

I know how much most of you hate Metal - that’s why I keep posting it. Wouldn’t it be an obscene idea to run a music blog that pleases its masses of faceless consumers?

PENTAGRAM were from Chile and their one and only life time 7″ came out in Schwitzerland. It was produced by Marco Suremannn, a true maniac and ex-Hellhammer roadie (spent a lot of his personal money on the band before he finally got fed up with the manners of Tommy Fischer Warrior, one of the most shameless whores the music business has ever spat out). Suremann, or Dinosaur as he was called, once tried to live solely off Coca Cola and gummi baers (jelly babies). When you walked into his flat, it was all (and I mean ALL) painted black, with a huge pentagram on the floor - except for a bright white kitchen, filled with Coca Cola and packs of gummi bears. This special diet would last for months, some say for a full year.
It was in this time that he released this monster of a 7″. Dirty, rough as hell, brutal and dry to the bone Death Metal the way it was supposed to be. Some Slayer riffing, but basically everything was kept simple and effective. “Demoniac Possession” is such a whirlitzing avalanche of a song, it’s got to be one the genre’s timeless highlights - music of this intensity just isn’t being produced no more!
The band’s guitarist and driving force, Anton, was definately the chilean version of Les Evans - everybody and his mother traded tapes with him.

A few years ago, some guy from Belgium released a full LP of PENTAGRAM material, including studio outtakes. Still, this 7″ is perfect and the LP was surely nice, but it was also unnecessary. The band also had a rehearsal demo tape which absolutely destroyed. One day, when I feel like chasing off the powerpoppers for good, you might hear it.

PS: “Eric Killer” - that’s me.

Thy almighty Pentagram!!! One of my favorite metal bands of the 80s. Brings back fond memories of my tape trading days. I still have the original 7″ and I recently bought the CD with both demos and live material…

Erich, any plans to reprint (or upload hi-res scans of) old Megawimp issues?

  13. Erich wrote:

Cheers Luc - I was actually thinking of making the old MEGAWIMP issues available in digital form, including the very first, unpublished, 80something pages issue. It’s all a matter of time, I guess ….. Is the CD you’re speaking of identical with the vinyl version?

  14. Luc wrote:

Cool. Actually I haven’t seen the vinyl version of the Pentagram discography so I can’t compare. The CD is on Picoroco Records and has both demos + a couple of live tracks.
