Murray,
That was a fun show...I will never forget putting on the old man mask and Brad introducing me as Jesus before our horrible version of La Grange...then the minute we finished a guy rushed the stage picked up the mask that was on a wig head and asking angrily, "Which one of you guys thinks this is Jesus?" The satire was just lost on him I guess...
Brad and I drove off in a hail of beer bottles..
How are you Murray?? I am still in Bangkok, 10 yrs now...will be through LA in OCT...would love to see you...Listen to you guys all the time BTW...when I DJ here the Old 97s are heard in Asia!!

King told me that there was actually less than 100 survived, because the girl that put them out destroyed what hadn't made it out to the music stores -- VVV, etc. -- because she got mad at the band over a money disagreement. I remember he said he was pretty sure something like 75 made it out unscathed.

Great to see Tommie pipe up. Murry from Old 97s here - I was at that Bowie Theater show. Remember how we all got beat up after the second night? The "Magnums" opened for you guys the first night, then their goon crowd went home, but then the bill was switched the second night and the heavy metal bunch had to suffer through Brad's non-stop tirade at them. It was GREAT!!! Phil Flowers and I escaped ok after, got roughed up a little nothing too bad. I think Brad went off in your car, birds flying, while long haired rednecks chased you. Good times!!!

My name is Tommie Duncan and I was the original guitarist for the Hugh Beaumont Experience back when I was 15...we cut that EP in 3 hrs at a small studio in Arlington, TX and we had only been together as a band for about one month...the first airplay was on The Rock and Roll Alternative hosted by George Gimarc the following Sunday...I also played on the live side of the Virgin Killers LP, which was a gig at the now defunct Bowie Theater in Ft Worth, TX (hometown for us). The studio side however features a guy named David McCreath on guitar as I left the band when they decided to move to Austin, TX...Jeff "King" Coffee (best know as the drummer from the Butthole Surfers), played on both sides of the Virgin Killers LP but was not with the band when we did the original EP...the drummer at that point was Carter Kolba...Coffee was to join the band about 5 months later...Cool to see this stuff is still around!!! I myself live in BKK, Thailand and still play guitar a bit!

i went into a rage hearing this again after so many years. such memories it brings back to me of being a teenage hellion. it reminded me of my old ex girlfriend mandy who tried to kill me with her pink switchblade and bumming beer money from strangers on the streets of tennessee
