THE HUGH BEAUMONT EXPERIENCE- The Cone Johnson E.P. 7" (Cygnus Records, USA, 1981)
Ever since I first heard HUGH BEAUMONT EXPERIENCE on the “Cottage Cheese from the Lips of Death” compilation LP and heard of their impossibly rare 7″, I was looking for the gemm. Living in the Kingdom of Sweden, a couple of thousand miles away from where “it” happened (here, you must whisper, in true Really Red style, “in Texasss”), it wasn’t all to easy to track it down.
I’m sure y’all have heard the stories about how it comes this record is so rare. It’s a shame really cause it features some very nice amateurish whacky Punk! My picks would be the first track and “Money means so much to me”, although the lyrics to “Zyklon B” keep pissin me off constantly. “Talking to Mister Goebels last week, had the nerve to call me a freak, he said that I was a subhuman, said this time he’s gonna stop me.” Where does this disturbing and idiotic identification of Punks with jewish people in ns-germany come from?
Well, let’s get funny again. Hahahoho. The posthumous LP “Virgin Killers” is much, much better than this 7″. The A-side features the bands demo tape, produced by Bob Mould and the B-side a hillarious live concert. “Existential Vacuum” also re-released parts of this 7″ together with previously unreleased material on a 7″. Unfortunately, both of them were pretty limited and seem to be quite difficult to track down. Let me know in the comments if the LP would be a good choice of good bad music.
The sleeve you see up there is extremely rare. It was handcolored by me. And sorry for the crackling – my copy is pretty beat up.

The studio side however features a guy named David McCreath on guitar as I left the band when they decided to move to Austin, TX…Jeff “King” Coffee (best know as the drummer from the Butthole Surfers), played on both sides of the Virgin Killers LP but was not with the band when we did the original EP…the drummer at that point was Carter Kolba…Coffee was to join the band about 5 months later…Cool to see this stuff is still around!!! I myself live in BKK, Thailand and still play guitar a bit!
