TEENAGE QUEERS- Live at Raul’s 1980 LP & BONUS (Brain Transplant Records, USA, 1998)

cover shots currently down Just before my interface fucked up beyond repair, I ripped the B-Side of this and today, when I borrowed a friends interface, I snatched the A-Side. So this is the last post until I have received my new recording utility.

TEENAGE QUEERS were basically the same band that recorded the famous BOBBY SOXX 7″ (to be found on this very blog). So for information, just go there.
Rogar Mah released this LP in a limited edition of 400 (if memory serves) a while back and it’s been out of print since then. It’s a major shame really, because this is my favourite of all posthumously released LP’s of KBD-grandeur, along with the incredible HUGH BEAUMONT EXPERIENCE “Virgin Killers” longplayer.
I’ve never heard a “lowfi” sound evoking so much apocalypse. As always with soundboard recordings, guitar hardly present which surely doesn’t create a wall of sound – yet this is so intense it’s scary! When I ripped it this afternoon, I was focussing on the kick drum alone and even that made me shiver. Awesome!!

Because you’ll have to wait a few days before my next deed of musical mercy, I will throw in two mp3 files that seem to be floating around (thanks Felix!). “Swastikas for Christ” which already kicks the shit outta ya on the Live LP is totally fucking mindblowing in its studio version with the insane keyboard line. the other songs is tagged as “Masochist Ice Cream Men on Dru[gs]” but I’m not sure if this is correctly tagged.

Well, I wouldn’t call it “rare” in the sense of high priced, but of the 400 copies made, I rarely see one turning up.

  9. Legendary punk band The Teenage Queers formed in 1979 in Dallas, Texas. The original line up was Bobby Soxx on lead vocals, Valerie Boles on bass, Pogo on guitar, and Gerard Dirkx on drums. After a handful of shows with this line-up Steve Dirkx joined on guitar. In early 1980 Boles and Pogo left the group, with Chris Dirkx joining on drums and Gerard Dirkx moving to guitar. This is the final line-up, which recorded the live LP and the double-sided single, as well as other studio recordings, two of which have found their way to this website. Although the bulk of the T.Q.’s material was written by Booby Soxx/Steve Dirkx, it was not entirely so, as various songs were contributed by Boles, Pogo and Gerard Dirkx. The Teenage Queers broke up in late 1980, with Bobby going on to form the Stickmen With Rayguns. Although a good effort, they can’t compare The Teenage Queers— Texas’ all-time most notorious punk band.

  10. The Bobby Soxx / Teenage Queers “extra studio tracks” were demo recorded in 1995, by only Bobby and Gerard. Never officially released, not sure how they excaped onto the internet. They might be the last recordings of Bobby before he died.
