NERVEBREAKERS- Politics 7"EP (Wild Child Records, USA, 1978)

Like all Texas punk of the era, this is no letdown either. NERVEBREAKERS first 7″ features two real hits (you’ll find them downloadable below) and two so-so numbers (“My Life is ruined” and the christmas-ish “I can’t help you”). “My Girlfriend is a Rock” has got to be heard to be believed – what a smash hit! Can somebody help me with the lyrics? Is there some tongue-in-cheek i don’t understand or were they seriously talking about “a piece of chalk”? Anybody read “Don Juan ou Le festin de pierre” by Molière?

Enough heads in the air talk here – let’s get ready fer sum friggin’ runkpock!

Oh yeah – that sticker on da cover shouldn’t be there. It’s from a secondhand shop, but that’s none of yer business.

Hmm sorry Erich My Girlfriend is as bad as I remember it. Yes I’ve heard it before. Politics are better but too long.

Nice guitar work but inane lyrics. Yes, he did say his girlfriend was a “piece of chalk,” not to mention a “rock” about 100 times and–ooh, let’s mix it up here–a piece of concrete. It must have been hilarious to them when they wrote it while smoking blunt, but once the smoke fades away and the head clears, it’s just plain dumb.

Thought I’d go way back and check out your humble beginnings as a blog master :-) but the links don’t work to the tunes (or the images) on this one so I can’t give any feedback. it did sound interesting but you didn’t have too much to say.

I used to have one made of wood,
    but she wasn’t very good.

Now I got one made of rock.
We like to sit and talk
Hey, she talks good, for a rock!
Lot’s of people stop and stare
They can’t understand what she’s saying there
    they dont understand rock

    (not sure)

My girlfriend is a rock (x2)
She really likes to Pogo to the beat
She dances pretty good for a piece of concrete
Yeah my girlfriend is a rock
She looks like a piece of chalk
    or maybe alabaster…
I guess you’d have to ask her!

Man you oughta see her at the local pool
She swims pretty good, as a general rule,
But she doesn’t swim, no, quite as good
As a girl made out of wood!

My girlfriend is a rock (repeat)

Just on the off chance that any one cares. I didn’t write it, but my band used to perform in the mid 90s. And as for it being stupid and repetitive, I guess maybe it seems that way, 30 years later. But fu, you obviously were never a punk so stfu.

    :D
