V/A HA HA! FUNNY POLIS 7"EP Comp (Groucho Marxist, UK, 1980)

Great and unfortunately overlooked 7″ comp with Scotland’s finest young men – DEFIANT POSE, THE FEGS, URBAND ENEMIES and the hillarious XS DISCHARGE making fun of the Paisley police. One would expect harshcore punk, but in fact the bands lean more towards a poppish yet garagey stlye.

Here’s the entire whirlitzer for ya:

Defiant Pose- Fight.mp3
Urban Enemies- Who do you hate?.mp3
The Fegs- Mill Street Law and Order.mp3
XS Discharge- Lifted.mp3

Amazing comp! NEVER heard it before. My pick is Uraban Enemies along with The Fegs. Could live without Defiant Pose and X-S Discharge though.

You’re welcome Joe. I can only say it with ABBA: “Thank you for the music”.

I’m not sure whether I have more vinyl from Groucho Marxist in my collection or not and going through the lot searching for it frightens me. Could you name names to save time?

Buildings of the 70′s by “Mod Cons”,and Radiomania by “The Sneex” , both from “Spectacular Commodity”. Most of the others are available on other blogs, apart from communique no.5 “Pissin in the Wind”, which no-one seems to have, featuring “Fallout”, “Destroy”, “Urban Enemies” and “Defiant Pose”, it was recorded at Sirocco studios same as all the other releases, so who knows. Maybe it didn’t see the light of day proper

Communique 1 should be a comp. called ‘The sound of alternative paisley’ but I don’t know if it’s a 7″.
Never heard of the ‘Pissing in the wind’ comp.

these groups played in my homeland way back (Yorkshire) and i thought most of them were awful. the music here i found while looking for somthing else sounds to have more content than i recall at the time. they were a pretty intimidating lot as well, like a football stag weekend but , looking back now i realise it was probably better than i gave them credit for. my main recollection is that one of the bands had a guitar with 4 pickups, pre spinal tap days, i remember being slightly envious as a budding string plucker myself ,not much of a tribute that, but i need to go feed the cats

‘Mac’ as he was known to us was indeed a fine guitarist and a founder member of the band. He wasn’t around for the final gig which was a support slot to SLF at the old Glasgow Apollo.
Can’t for the life of me now remember under which circumstances he departed the band but it was definitely amicable.
Two of the original members of the band went on to form further musical exploits with another long term friend.
Coincidently for anyone who’s remotely interested, these three old gits are still recording sonic sculptures today. NOT playing fucking golf!
Tell your dad I was asking after him. ;o)
